THE NATIVE MIDWESTERN

JANE EYRE EDITION
Publication Design, Illustration, Information Design
For this edition of Jane Eyre, I focused on the interior elements as well as the cover. The lock and key imagery on the cover symbolizes several aspects of the book, both literal and metaphorical. The interior features a bird-patterned endpaper, a map of real and estimated fictional locations, and a family tree. The original publication of the book was broken into the three volumes, and in this edition, I have returned to these divisions and decorated the divider pages with engravings from the 1840s.

LITERARY LIBATIONS REDESIGN
Publication Design, Illustration
This book was a library discovery, one that combines two of my personal interests. The original had delightful illustrations, but they only occasionally depicted the drink pairings. I wanted my redesign to feature photography for these recipes balanced with pattern-based illustrations. I also added a dust jacket wrap, stronger theming for genre sections, more breathing room for each recipe, and greater emphasis on the drink pairing. Throughout these changes, I kept the original dimensions, hard cover, and 4-color cover and interior.

SANGUINE (SENIOR THESIS)Research, Brand Identity, Hand Typography, Publication Design,
Book-Binding, Motion Design The topic of menstruation remains taboo in the United States even today. Important information is left undiscussed, and most menstrual resources are heavily gendered. Using feminine-oriented language excludes transgender, non-binary, and intersex people, and makes it seem like only certain people can talk about menstruation. Sanguine is a social campaign that strives to honestly and inclusively educate kids and teens of all genders about menstruation.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEE-ING INFOGRAPHICSResearch, Information Design
This project, which spanned the semester, required two panels — that could stand apart or together — to express a topic that was either sequential, evolutionary, or cyclical. I chose to research and articulate the topic of bees, specifically colony collapse disorder and its implications. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet and social media about colony collapse, and it was my goal to share correct and nuanced information.

CLIMATE RESEARCH INFOGRAPHICSInformation Design
A large part of the work done at the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center is research done by graduate students and full-time employees, and this research is presented to a broad audience. I worked closely with individual researchers to create infographics that summarize their research clearly and concisely.

ILLUSTRATION & LETTERING
Character Design, Digital Illustration, Hand Lettering
In my free time, I challenge myself to learn more about character design and lettering through self-directed projects. Most of these projects were first done by hand and then refined digitally.
